An additional insured is someone who is added to the policy to receive coverage alongside the primary insured person through the declaration page. It is also done through an endorsement, which is a modification that extends the benefits to the added party.
Having additional insureds can help protect you and your partners from potential claims. For example, you can add family members or people who live with you. This can be particularly beneficial in situations where shared responsibilities or risks exist, such as in partnerships, joint ventures, or even household settings.
At PSIC, you can add additional insureds through an endorsement to your policy or on a declaration page for Homeowners, Personal liability, and Motorcycle, among others.
It’s important to remember that an additional insured has the same coverage as the named insured, so your family and loved ones are always protected. The declarations will show the limits for each type of coverage.
When it comes to liability and medical payments to others, an additional insured is only covered if they are found responsible for an act or omission of the named insured in the declarations. Keep in mind that you cannot file a claim against an additional insured if any issues arise.
