The bailor is the person or entity that temporarily transfers possession of goods to another person or entity, known as the bailee, under a bailment agreement. While the bailor retains ownership of the goods, the bailee assumes the responsibility to care for and protect those goods.
As a bailor, it’s important to ensure that your goods are adequately covered by your insurance policy, especially if the items are of high value or at risk during the bailment.
If the goods are damaged or lost while in the custody of the bailee, the bailor may have the right to file a claim, depending on the terms of the bailment contract and the insurance policy.
As an insurance company, we truly care about your protection and well-being. However, we must emphasize that we cannot cover any damages or losses that occur while your belongings are in the custody of a bailee. During our risk assessment, we consider your risk profile and where your items will be stored, among other factors.
We understand that insurance can be complex, and you may have questions about this policy. That’s why we encourage you to reach out to your trusted agent for more information. They are here to help you understand your coverage and ensure you have the right protection in place. Your peace of mind is our priority.
