Replacement Cost

What Does Replacement Cost Mean?

Replacement cost refers to the money needed to substitute an item with a new one of similar kind and quality at current market prices. It’s coverage that fully reimburses the cost of replacing a damaged or destroyed item, without factoring in depreciation or actual cash value.

It means that if your insured assets, such as your home or personal property, is damaged, destroyed, or stolen, your insurance company will provide the funds necessary to replace the item with a new one, even if the original item had depreciated in value over time.

For example, if your TV is stolen, the insurer will provide you with the funds to purchase a new TV of similar kind and quality, regardless of the age or condition of the stolen one. This guarantees that you can replace your belongings without incurring a significant financial burden.

Having replacement cost coverage is beneficial because it allows you to recover the full value of your lost or damaged items, enabling you to replace them with new ones. It provides you with a greater level of financial protection and peace of mind in case of unexpected events that require an exchange.

How Does Replacement Cost Work at PSIC?

PSIC utilizes an inspection reports as a reference for estimating the replacement cost of each dwelling. However, it is not a substitute for the insured’s own determination of the RCV of their residence.

Our policies come with actual cash value, but you can modify this coverage through an endorsement. We recommend speaking with your producer to receive proper advice.

It is important for the insured to conduct their own assessment to guarantee that the coverage amount is adequate and accurately reflects the true value of their property.
