Forgery

What Does Forgery Mean?

Forgery coverage, also known as document fraud coverage, protects policyholders from losses resulting from the falsification of documents or signatures that may lead to dishonest transactions.

This crime can embrace, for example, counterfeit checks, fraudulent bank transfers, identity theft or the submission of falsified claim documents to the insurance company.

This coverage is typically included as part of a commercial property and liability insurance policy. It serves to mitigate the financial risks associated with fraudulent activities and provides compensation for losses suffered as a result of forgery.

In the event of an incident, it is advisable to consult a fraud specialist and gather evidence of the false documents or signatures. A legal instrument such as a police report or expert opinion may be required to support the claim. It is important to note that the determination of forgery may vary based on common law principles and the terms of the insurance policy.

Carefully reviewing the policy is essential to understand the coverage’s scope, limitations, and the specific procedures for filing a claim related to forgery incidents.

How Does Forgery Work at PSIC?

Forgery is included in personal cyber protection, which is an endorsement for Homeowners, Renters, Condo or Mobile home that provides financial compensation and assistance if you become a victim of a cyber threat.

It refers to certain situations where you suffer a direct financial loss. These can include identity theft, unauthorized use of your bank or credit card information, alteration of checks, accepting counterfeit money, or being deceived into giving away something valuable. However, it’s important to note that certain situations are not covered, such as being threatened or coerced, disputes with family members, or situations involving authorized use of your card or account.

Additionally, disputes over product or service quality, online auctions, lotteries, and advance fee fraud are also not covered by PSIC.
